Great base, make sure to put in some long runs to get your body ready for the marathon.

Went for a nice long one today. Boy was it a georgeous afternoon. Nothing stressful...just a nice long run to clear the mind and start the week off right.

Probably more than three miles run, but just an estimate.  Played full court hoops for 3 hours straight with a couple 5 min water breaks.  I love monday night hoops as it is a nice change of pace to my usual running schedule.

Picked up the pace this morning on a nice 6 miler.  Trying to change things up a bit and not just get into the rut of running the same course at the same pace all the time.  Felt good to push the pace a little and found out that I actually still had some reserves at the finish.

Great mid day run today.  Took it out a little slow, but quickly gained momentum and actually clocked my fastest split on the last mile.  Still felt pretty fresh after the warm run in the midday sun.  Heading out for a morning run tomorrow...better go get some sleep and rest up.

Took a great morning run today.  It is absolutely georgous up here is the Pacific Northwest today.  I guess this is why we suffer through the winters....lol.  Averaged about 8.15 min miles.  Legs are feeling stronger and stronger all the time.  Will I be ready for marathon on the 27th????

At least I know I will give it my best effort.

Headed out late as work and kids took precedent....finished 6 miles in just under 50 minutes and pace seemed fairly comfortable.  Any suggestions on what kind of pace I should set out for on the full marathon in two weeks?

how about a very easy 3 miles thursday to loosen it up a bit.

also you could start at 9:00 pace and hold that until mile 20. After that you will need to do whatever you can to finish- You will probably be able to get finished under 4 hours that way.

Also...you don't need to eat a ton of food to carbo load. Just a little extra with each meal and more juices with your meals helps too. Sleep as much as you can and eat about 2 hours before the run.

Good Luck!

Echo comments from ridge runner. One thing I might add, don't do anything different since you started training. Same foods is a must. Enjoy the experience. Have confidence and you will do great. Best of luck.

Just relax and enjoy the marathon.

Good luck

I did it!  Completed my first Marathon on my first attempt in a time of 4:19:52  Had to kick to the line to bread 4:20 and the crowd seemed to love it.  I couldn't believe I could even do it after running for that long.  It was such a great feeling.  I will blog more later about the experience....but it is now just starting to sink in that I did something I never thought I would even try and was successful.

Congratulations!! And thanks for your comments on my blog. I'll go respond there, but I had to say hi here too!

From Jon on Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 12:01:48 from 138.64.2.76

You should go back to this day in the entry calendar and put the check mark in "This is a race report"- then it will flag it for everyone to see and make it easier to find. You can fill in the race name, time, etc.

And a big congrats!

First run since the Rock and Roll marathon in Seattle on Saturday.  This was my first ever marathon and I wanted to make sure I would not get injured so I just went for a short 3 miler.  It felt pretty good with not much fatigue at all.  Going to ease back in and then get on a real training program for the Seattle Marathon in November.  I want to see how much time I can knock off if I really dedicate myself.  Sasha.....any suggestions are welcome!

Great job on the marathon! What an accomplishment! I too would love to find other runners in my area but it seems that most people out here just like to drink beer and eat brats! Good luck with all the running!

First competitive 5K.  Quite different from the marathon and now know that if I want to do better at these short distances that I will need to start doing some speed work.  Felt like I was just getting comfortable and the race was over!  I have much to learn....but at 7:51/mile average it was not bad.  Especially when the marathon was only 2 weeks ago.

It was a beautiful, sunny, Seattle day with race time temps in the low 70's.

That is tough 2 weeks after a marathon, wow!!!!

I have to say, I would rather run a marathon any day over a 5k. 5k's are so difficult, you have to just be in awe of those that finish in 15 minutes, huh?!?

From Canyon Man on Sat, Jul 11, 2009 at 19:57:01 from 71.164.9.70

Kelli,

You got that right...winner was like 15:04...crazy fast! I felt pretty good, but know that my legs are not completely back. I now have a starting point to challenge myself from.

From Kelli on Sun, Jul 12, 2009 at 01:29:37 from 71.219.89.21

Best of luck with that Challenge. O hope to one day conquer the 5k myself!
